Transport service hangs in "starting" state
Hi, on a server running 2008 64bit Ex2007 Sp1 suddenly the Transport Service stopped to work. It hangs in a "starting" state. It was running under Network Service account. I tried to get back it to work using a dom admin account, local system account but no luck. A few ms update were installed on the server and we didn't change anything else. I tried to install the Hub Transport Rule on a different server (CAS server) and I got the same problem there. Do you have any suggestion on the cause ?

It should be running using the Network service account. Change it back to NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService and then make sure all bulleted passwords are removed. Restart the computer (or service is not in a stopping or starting state). Shaun

So you have change to Network Service, restarted the computer and it is still in a 'starting' state? Can you check the Micrsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology Service is started successfully.Shaun

I know the Transport Service relies on the MS Ex AD Topology Service. It starts up without any problem Thx

Take a look in your event log for further clues, and use the Exchange Best Practice Analyser and Mail flow troubleshooter tools for more info. Exchange Management Console --> Tools Shaun

What other apps are running on the server? Is this thing also a DC?Also, what about DNS? Are there any errors in the Event logs with Topology Service?Have any permissions changed on the TransportRoles folder?Any updates recenly done to the environment?SF - MCITP:EMA, MCTS: Exchange 2010, Exchange 2007, MOSS 2007, OCS 2007 --

We fixed the issue. There was no way to start the HT service because the .que database was corrupted. Even we couldn't repair it with eseutil
